I don't think Mother Nature knows what day it is

Life is fabulous and we're enjoying Colorado. Yet, I can't seem to keep track of what the weather in Colorado is doing from what moment to the next. At least I get to rock winter clothes for more than a couple days like I'm used to from what Arizona winters were like. Let's not forget this weather gives me excuse to go buy more coats, jackets & boots as soon as they are back in the stores!!! :)

As much as I'm enjoying the weather keeping me on my toes, having an excuse to pull my hair back in a ponytail, wear flats or my converse, take a cardigan or sweater everywhere, I seriously am curious if Mother Nature knows it is April 29th and tomorrow is April 30th, the last day of April for the year. Reason I ask is because this unpredictable, all over the map, weather we've been experiencing in Colorado is totally new to me (and Jeff). Yesterday weather was sunny, 80 degrees and breezy in the am which turned into windy in the afternoon. The weather has since drastically changed. There are some parts of Colorado that had 7" of snow this morning, our area is not yet seen the snow but have experienced rain off and on with darker skies that fooled me with showing the sun and clearer skies for 1 hour this afternoon...then the rain came right back. It is supposed to storm all weekend like this...snow is said to hit our area of Denver tonight. Don't get me wrong, I am digging it, and love that at least after a storm, clear skies come out of no where and the glorious sun shows its face again. Simply put, this weather is just odd to me. I know I've mentioned this before and to warn you now, it probably won't be the last time it is mentioned in a blog post, especially with what I was told yesterday. We had a house guest last night (our first...more on that in a different post) and he & Jeff both educated me on the weather for May. Word is more snow still to come in May. Oh what?!?! Do you think the Mountains are still open? If it's going to be snowing I think it calls for a ski day A.S.A.P., don't you? Well just another update and what I've been thinking about as I sit at home and work and look out the windows. Back to my work I go.

Golden Birthday

Are you familiar of Golden Birthdays? Well if not, here is how it is explained online.
“A person's Golden or Grand Birthday, more commonly referred to as their "Lucky Birthday", "Champagne Birthday" or "Star Birthday", occurs when they turn the age of their birth day (e.g., when someone born on the 25th of the month turns 25)”

I just celebrated my Golden Birthday on 4/27! So as you can all guess, I turned 27 this year. I feel somewhat sad for those of you who were born on the 2nd, because unfortunately your Golden was when you were too young to even know there was something more than just simply your birthday every year and how much fun & special it is said to be. It was a fun birthday this year and we still have more celebrating to do this weekend. However on my actual Golden Birthday, Jeff & I went to dinner at a Mexican restaurant (see the last post). Of course before that, I talked to a lot of family & friends, received countless cards, e-mails, text and FaceBook messages, throughout the day. I got the pleasure of Skyping with my parents for 46 minutes that morning. And during that conversation they pointed out the fact that I am exactly half their age this year…crazy. I hadn’t even thought of that before they pointed it out. Received beautiful flowers from Stephane (thank you again)!! This weekend we’re going to go out & celebrate more with our friends Matt & Jenny. I can’t believe I turned 27 this year. I still think of myself as 21. Anyway, my Golden Birthday was awesome and looking forward to celebrating a little bit more this weekend and doing some shopping! I think I’ll be having a glass of Champagne to further celebrate it being my Golden Birthday.

Chiclets anyone?!?!

Chiclets. Seriously ingenious of the Mexican food restaurant to offer Chiclets at the hostess stand and with your bill after you've paid, instead of mints. Makes perfect sense. Or at least to me it does. And I was amazed by them. Not that they have the best flavor or hold their flavor for more than a minute or two (if you’re lucky & maybe double down on pieces), but because to me, Chiclets are something I relate to every trip I’ve ever taken to Mexico. Starting with my first trip to Mexico and every trip thereafter, there were always little kids running around the streets trying to sell you Chiclets in every flavor variety possible for a couple pesos.

Now the restaurant is called,
Lola. I know I’ve posted about a Lola’s in AZ, but this is a totally different restaurant. Obviously for one reason, the name is slightly different. Secondly though, this restaurant is in Denver. Lola is off of Boulder Street in Denver and has good food and drinks. It was recommended to us by a couple people so it was time to give it a try, especially since we’ve been missing Mexican food. Not like we even ate out that often or when we did would go out for Mexican but regardless, we were craving it. Lola restaurant is in such a great location. If you get there early enough to beat the happy hour crowd or don’t mind waiting for a table, you have to sit on their patio because it’s where you get to experience the views. You have a supreme view of the Denver skyline from their patio and you get to people watch all the people who walk by, are out for a jog, or are entering the restaurant.

We started off sitting at their bar to wait for a more desirable table on their patio. They have tasty margaritas…well mine was, Jeff’s marg, not so tasty. Jeff got the House Margarita with this organic tequila the bartender hyped and sold us on. It’s like it was tequila, ice & a couple limes lightly squeezed into the drink. The flavor was too clean, and for me to say that you know it wasn’t good. I went for the QCoin Margarita on the menu. The description is as follows: “muddled cucumber & agave nectar. fresh lime. el Tesoro platinum. finished with a squeeze of orange and a cucumber twist.” Needless to say, it was awesome and I totally recommend it.

We enjoyed our margs, rather I enjoyed mine, Jeff drank his with disappointment while enjoying chips & salsa, and peopling watching while waiting at the bar.

Once our table was ready it was time to really give this place a try. They had a Tuesday night 4 course tasting menu. Perfect!! 1st course, a Ceasar Salad, with some spice to it and light dressing (which is total a must for any salad in my opinion). 1st Course though, great. Now the 2nd course didn’t disappoint either; lamb meatball. Spice, amazing flavor and sauce and the lamb was phenomenal. The main course, was the 3rd course and there were two options to choose from; one steak, one fish. Since we both decided to do this Tuesday Taste, we each ordered different entrees. Jeff went with the steak and I with the fish (Grilled artic Char). Both were phenomenal!! The 4th & final course to our meal was dessert. It was an amazing Crème Carmel flan that was paired with Vanilla Bean ice cream and had Carmel drizzled over top. All 4 courses of the nights menu were amazing and I would totally get again if ever there again on a Tuesday night. Now, that wasn’t it though. Something they offered with the meal for an additional charge was either a tequila pairing or wine pairing. I decided to go with the wine pairing. Jeff had beer. I was amazed by the three wines they paired with the food; all delicious; all different and not just tastes as I thought I would be getting, rather each was a full glass of wine. It was a lot of food, a lot of alcohol and was a very fun night.

Something I’m happy about is that ever since arriving in Colorado; we have been exploring. We have tried lots of different restaurants, shopping centers, malls, and etcetera. We’re not just sticking to one area and not doing the same thing every day or night. It’s been fun and we’re exploring our new city to see what all is out there. If you live in Denver or ever visit; my vote would be to check out Lola Coastal Mexican Food Restaurant. Make sure to grab your Chiclets too!

xo
P.S. - Since it was my birthday; the blackberry stayed at home when we went out for dinner which meant no photos other than the chiclets photo I took when we got home. Next time I'll take my camera if not taking my phone because would have loved to share more but I guess you'll just have to go try it out for yourself to see what all the fuss is about.

Slacking lately...oops

Geesh, I have been majorly slacking on this blog. Over a week since my last blog post. So much to update you all on.
1. Went to my first Rockies Game as a Colorado resident. I used to go to Rockies games growing up when I would spend my summers in Colorado with family, however haven't since they played at the old Mile High football stadium. This was the first one in a long time. Unfortunately for Jeff, he had to fly out that same Sunday to go to work. I however got to go to the game with my Uncle Jamie, his wife Laura, my aunt Annie, Cousin Camden (just over 2 and such a QT...total Toe head and so much fun to be around), and my Grandpa K. We all went for Grandpa's birthday. We met at Jamie & Laura's house then took the light rail to get there. It was such a fun day spent with family. The game was a blast. The stadium rocks (my first time at that Stadium). And the birthday boy had a good time enjoying a game with the family. Thanks again Jamie & Annie for inviting me to celebrate Grandpa's birthday with everyone in such a fun way. It was a great day!

2. Finally got the house settled. Well as settled as you can get a place that you only hope to stay in for 6-9 months. But feels good to not have boxes to unpack, etc.

3. Went to a wedding in San Diego for a few days. One of my best friends. A girl I've been friends with since we were 5 years old, Natalie. I was honored to stand up in her wedding to Brian and had a great time being part of the memory that is their wedding. I am going to do a whole separate post though on their wedding because it deserves & needs it's own post.

4. The weather here has been crazy unpredictable. One minute clear, sunny skies, 2 hours later, rain or hail and dark skies. Then random snow storms. Tornado warnings. But then it clears up and later in the day, sunny & 58 degrees. LOVE it here. The weather is definitely not what we're used to, especially since it's the end of April. Anyway, I've been told this is normal weather for Colorado in the Spring and it is always unpredictable every Spring. It keeps us on our toes and we're enjoying not knowing how it is going to be next. :)

5. We are learning our way around slowly but surely. I can get to 5 targets, yes 5. I can get to 3 malls, one (my favorite) is 5 minutes South, then my other favorite is 15 minutes NW of our place. Super markets, couple either which way of our place. Finding new favorite eateries every week. There are still so many places to learn of & go explore but in time we will get it all figured out.

I need to charge my camera and capture some photos of everything and post with my future blogs. I've been slacking on the photos too.

Anyway, I think that is enough of an update for now. Be back soon. xoxo

Imagine that

There is so much to update you all on. We've been living in Colorado for just over a week now and love it! Finally feeling a little more settled. Our first week in Denver was filled with so much, but I'll have to post on that later.

Hope you all could use a laugh this morning, here’s my story to share…..

The day started off great. Was shaping up to be a great & productive morning. Got up super early, hit the gym with a friend, went to Starbucks, got home before people were even on their way to work, was going through e-mails and having a great morning. Then while talking on the phone & cooking some food, I dropped my phone in a pot of water. I would now no longer consider it a good & productive morning. I have tried everything, air drying, taking the blow dryer the device, and it unfortunately won’t work. Before at least it would turn on, but now the screen has gone permanently dark and none of the buttons work. Imagine that, a cell phone does not work after being fully immersed in water....weird.

As much as I can laugh at this, learn from it and move on, I am a little mad at myself for this mistake. Last thing I want to do is have to go get a new phone. I mean I just go this blackberry beginning of March (and it was free thanks to my dad not being able to use it in Dubai....thanks again dad). Not to mention Jeff & I got it 'Ghost Armored' at Best Buy. Can't believe I ruined the phone. Of course with this mistake I've made, makes me really think about what to do next. The real decision is, do I stay with Verizon and the Blackberry or switch to AT&T and an iPhone? They will do the water damage test on it at the Verizon store, realize what happened and I'll have to buy a new device. Water damage voids all insurance. Seeing that I'll have to spend money on a new device I am considering making the switch to the iPhone. I just wish the iPhone was on Verizon. I am still not sure about AT&T. Only time will tell which way I'll go today with this decision. And while I'm at it, I think I might have them change my number to a Denver number. Or maybe that is too much to do all at once because then I need to update everyone with a number too and there is still lots of work I need to attend to today, not necessarily spending my time updating people with a new number.

Needless to say, I need to get a phone ASAP. I don't know about you but I am LOST without my phone. It's like I am brain dead & can't function without it. Can't call my suppliers for work, can take calls, don't know any one's number, etc. Now that is sad!!

I think a phone needs to be invented that works after being immersed in water….just saying. :)

Happy Tuesday all. I'll be back later for updates on our first week as Colorado residents!

Record Time

We drove out to Denver, CO (our new home) from Scottsdale, AZ yesterday and made it in record time. We drove a total of 13.5 hours. We have the movers coming this week (were supposed to delivery today but that has been delayed and pushed back a couple days...boo). Really anticipating our stuff showing up and getting the new place set up. There is so much to do but we are looking forward to getting everything set up and starting our life in our new City. We'll be back soon to update more on what is going on.

Happy Easter Sunday to all!

Now off to go enjoy the outdoors. It is beautiful, sunny and around 53 degrees today!! :)

The move has been cancelled.....

Happy April Fools' Day!

The move is still very much on and only a couple days away.

However doing some kind of prank or telling a fib in the spirit of the day has been something I have been doing since I can remember. Reason being, my Grandma Vi's birthday is April 1st. Every year my parents & I would think of some little joke to play on her or something to tell her that was only in the spirit of the day and to help poke fun on the day her birthday falls on.

With that said, Happy Birthday Grandma Vi. Jeff and I love you very much. Hope you have a very fabulous Birthday!

Here is a little information from Wikipedia on April Fools' Day
